Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests show the substance was likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in connection with the incident," they added.
City officials said they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the public for details.
A high-ranking political figure commented the incident left him speechless and required to be solved rapidly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, recalling the death of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
